Northumberland Federation of Agriculture

Northumberland Federation of Agriculture (NFA) works in partnership with the Ontario Federation of Agriculture on behalf of the local members to be the voice of agriculture in Northumberland County.

We are elected directors, from each of the seven municipalities, who volunteer their time to meet and discuss current industry issues, once a month. An active role is taken in fostering an open relationship with all levels of government to advise on policy making. We serve as ambassadors for the agriculture industry being a resource to consumers’ appetite for knowledge for their food.

NFA is proud to:

  • Prioritize the mental health of our members through the Farmer Wellness Program
  • Sponsor a post-secondary scholarship for 2nd year students
  • Support the Field to Food elementary school even for 700 students biannually
  • First county to implement the FARM 911 emergency field access identification project
  • Host an annual Municipal Farm Tour for municipal staff, decision makers, and elected officials
  • Produce and circulate a quarterly newsletter to our 700+ members
  • Facilitate a Mental Health First Aid course
  • Donate to community causes like 4-H, Antique Tractor Show, and Student Salsa Project, Food4All
  • Have regular breakfast meetings with the MP and MPP of Northumberland

The Board of Directors meet the 2nd Tuesday of each month at the Ontario Agri-Food Venture Centre board room in Colborne. This one-of-a-kind facility supports value-added processing for entrepreneurs and NFA donated to its beginnings.
