Proclamation - Rail Safety Week, September 20-26, 2021

Date: September 20 – 26, 2021

“Whereas Rail Safety Week is to be held across Canada from September 20 to 26, 2021; and

Whereas it is in the public’s interest to raise citizens’ awareness of the dangers of ignoring safety warnings at level crossings and trespassing on rail property to reduce avoidable deaths, injuries and damage caused by incidents involving trains and citizens; and

Whereas Operation Lifesaver is a public/private partnership whose aim is to work with the public, rail industry, governments, police services, media, and others to raise rail safety awareness; and

Whereas CN has requested that Northumberland County Council adopt this resolution in support of its ongoing efforts to raise awareness, save lives and prevent injuries in communities, including our municipality; and

Whereas busy freight and passenger rail lines extend throughout Northumberland County; and

Whereas Safe Communities Northumberland promotes Rail Safety and Railway Suicide Prevention;

Now Therefore Be It Resolved That I, Warden Bob Crate, on behalf of Northumberland County Council do hereby proclaim September 20 to 26, 2021 as Rail Safety Week in Northumberland County, and remind all citizens that rail safety is everyone’s responsibility.”
