RentSmart

RentSmart is a certification program run in Northumberland to support and promote successful tenancies. The program offers hands-on skill building in areas such as positive communication between landlords and tenants, understanding rights and responsibilities of a tenancy and accessing community resources. Landlord Tenant Board

The Landlord and Tenant Board (LTB) was created by the Residential Tenancies Act (RTA) on January 31, 2007. The RTA gives residential landlords and tenants rights and responsibilities and sets out a process for enforcing them.

The role of the LTB is to:

  • resolve disputes between landlords and tenants through mediation or adjudication;
  • resolve eviction applications from co-ops; and
  • provide information to landlords and tenants about their rights and responsibilities under the RTA.

The Help Centre (Landlord Liaison)

The Help Centre of Northumberland offers a Landlord Liaison program. The Landlord Liaison works alongside landlords to assist in navigating landlord tenant relations, provide education on homelessness in Northumberland and connect landlords to available resources in Northumberland.

Ontario Landlord Association

The Ontario Landlords Association (OLA) is an organization for private small residential landlords. They provide a unified voice for private landlords and promote and protect landlord interests to national and local government.
